Minuteman Senior Services’ Volunteer, Harvey Hansen, Honored with 2026 Myra Kraft Community MVP Award!
Nearly 14 years of dedicated service earns Harvey Hansen recognition and a $10,000 donation to Minuteman Senior Services!
Minuteman Senior Services is honored to celebrate our Money Management volunteer Harvey Hansen of Arlington, who has been named a 2026 Myra Kraft Community MVP Award winner in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to helping an older adult remain safe, stable, and independent in the community.
Harvey was one of 26 volunteers from across New England honored by the Kraft Family and New England Patriots Foundation during an awards luncheon at Gillette Stadium on September 15, 2026. As part of the recognition, Minuteman Senior Services received a $10,000 donation in Harvey’s name to support our work serving older adults, people with disabilities, and caregivers in our communities.
Throughout New England, extraordinary individuals are strengthening their communities through selfless acts of service. My late wife, Myra, of blessed memory, believed that each of us has a responsibility to help others and leave our communities better than we found them. This year’s honorees embody that spirit through their compassion, generosity and unwavering commitment to those they serve. We are proud to recognize them with the Myra Kraft Community MVP Awards and celebrate the meaningful difference they make every day.
For nearly 14 years, Harvey has volunteered with Minuteman Senior Services’ Money Management Program, helping older adults who may be facing difficulties managing their finances in order to maintain the stability they need to continue living safely and independently.
During this time, Harvey has been matched with the same individual, Ruth. Building upon the program’s monthly check-ins, Harvey took his commitment further and personally visited her every week. Over nearly 14 years, that dedication has added up to more than 700 visits, helping her manage bills and a budget, maintain access to food and healthcare benefits, and get to medical appointments.
His steady presence became especially important when she recently faced the threat of eviction. Because of Harvey’s long-standing relationship with Ruth and deep understanding of her circumstances, the complex manager reached out to Harvey directly. He was able to step in as an intermediary and help resolve the situation, sparing her the possibility of homelessness and helping her remain safely housed.
I am extremely honored to represent Minuteman Senior Services in one of their programs that offers the support many members of our community need so that they may enjoy a better quality of life. It is most gratifying to me that I can help ensure my client is able to maintain housing, food delivery, and healthcare benefits throughout the year. I am pleased to be a small part of that endeavor.
As a volunteer, Harvey has become a trusted and steady presence in Ruth’s life. His commitment to showing up week after week has provided not only practical support, but also the consistency and reassurance that can make a meaningful difference in someone’s ability to live safely and independently. Harvey’s dedication is a powerful example of how lasting impact is often built through compassion, trust, and the simple act of being there for someone, time and time again.
Harvey’s compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment embody the heart of Minuteman Senior Services’ mission. His story serves as a reminder of the remarkable difference volunteers can make in the lives of the people we serve.
